Doing the books

Doing the books is one of those chores that people will do almost anything to avoid: I have heard people say “I don’t bother about the accounts: I just give my accountant a shoe-box with my receipts in and he sorts it out.” It’s tempting to try and off-load this task at all costs but you may be just throwing money away. Is your accountant charging you his top rate for tidying up your shoebox?

A more efficient way to do your books is to prepare as much as you can before giving them to your accountant. You don’t need to abandon your shoe-box: just make sure everything in there has been recorded on a simple spreadsheet or even an old-fashioned hand-written ledger.

I can make you a spreadsheet to use, and I can prepare your accounts from the “shoe-box” stage (or worse!) to the point where your accountant can easily check them and do his work on them. This can save you several hours of your accountant’s time at accountants’ rates by paying for some of my time at my rates!

This is a “hands-on” service available in West Yorkshire only.
